AI storytelling –
Preserving practical knowledge for the future

AI Storytelling

When long-serving and experienced staff leave a company, valuable experience and specialist knowledge are often lost. Knowledge that has been built up over many years through day-to-day work cannot always be fully captured in documentation or training materials. This is precisely where the research project comes in „AI storytelling“ to.

Together with the project partners Blumbecker, ASM, EXPO21 and the Fraunhofer Institutes IESE and IFF GESA Automation GmbH is working on the development of an AI-based solution that can link employees’ experience and expert knowledge with information from technical documentation.

The aim is to capture this knowledge in a structured way, make it available in the long term and provide it in a targeted manner when required. In future, for example, AI should be able to provide support with technical queries, workflows or problem-solving. This will take into account not only existing documents, but also, and in particular, the knowledge and experience of the people who work with the technical systems and processes on a daily basis.

Throughout the course of the project, several members of staff at GESA Automation GmbH are actively involved in the research project.

The knowledge gathered from employees in this process will, of course, be treated as confidential and remains under the control of GESA Automation GmbH.

AI storytelling is thus intended to enable a new form of knowledge transfer: Even if experienced staff have already left the company, their knowledge can be preserved in the long term and made available to future generations.

Hydrogen reimagined:
GESA is part of the MEGA research project

How can hydrogen be produced where it is needed – efficiently, compactly and to a standard of quality that allows it to be used directly in fuel cells? This joint project is addressing this question MEGA.

Together with partners from the research and industrial sectors, GESA Automation GmbH is working on the development of an innovative methanol reformer system. The aim of the project is to produce high-purity hydrogen from methanol and make it available for direct use in fuel cells.

What makes this project special is that the hydrogen produced is expected to have an extremely low carbon monoxide content and can therefore be used in a low-temperature fuel cell without the need for further complex post-treatment. The project thus contributes to the further development of practical hydrogen and fuel cell technologies – particularly for mobile and maritime applications.

As a partner in the joint project, GESA contributes its expertise in the field of Automation and control technology into the development process. After all, innovative energy systems require not only high-performance technical components, but also intelligent solutions that reliably monitor, control and interconnect processes.

Together with the Leibniz Institute for Catalysis, the Friedrich-Alexander University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, Sigmar Mothes Hochdrucktechnik GmbH and ATI Küste GmbH, GESA is working to turn research into concrete technical solutions for the energy supply of the future.

MEGA demonstrates just how important the link between research, industry and automation technology is in bringing innovative technologies from the laboratory into practical application.

EVerAssist – Introducing and establishing technology-based assistance systems in SMEs

EverAssist logo

Skilled workers who operate and maintain plant in highly complex production environments require practical knowledge and a wide range of skills. A technology-based assistance system supports skilled workers in their day-to-day work by providing them with component- and situation-specific information. In this way, it promotes the transfer of knowledge and the acquisition of skills.

The aim of the EVerAssist research project is to ensure that an assistance system with these features, which is already available, becomes a permanent fixture on users„ factory floors. To this end, EVerAssist is, amongst other things, developing editorial processes for assistance content and individual user interfaces. A training programme on “digital skills’ is also being developed. Furthermore, approaches for developing company-specific use cases, as well as adaptations to technology and work processes, are being devised. The project comprises a development phase and a trial phase, both of which are being implemented in a participatory and iterative manner.

In the long term, the successful use of the assistance system can enhance a company’s appeal as an employer, retain knowledge within the organisation and reduce downtime.
